What is it?

The STEADY course is a face to face programme.

Who can take part?

You need to be between 18 - 25 and diagnosed with bipolar disorder (manic depression).

How long is the course?

The course has four modules and each module lasts one day. On average there is one module run per month for a 4-month period and you would need to be available for all 4 days.

How many people will be on the course?

There will be up to 12 participants and 2 facilitators. One of the facilitators will be diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Although the course is quite structured it is run in a relaxed, informal style with plenty of time to chat to other participants in small groups. How much you participate is entirely up to you - we don't believe in putting you on the spot!

What does the course cover?

  • Day 1: Recognition -Triggers, Warning Signs and Coping Strategies
  • Day 2: Social - Strategies for coping socially, focusing on relationships
  • Day 3: Medication - Prescription medication - what the choices are, how to negotiate with your medical professionals and information on street drugs, alcohol, etc.
  • Day 4: Planning - Strategies for planning for the future including employment, voluntary work and education.

Where can I do the course?

Courses have been run in London, Bristol, Manchester and Birmingham.

How much will it cost me?

The course has been generously supported by The Princess Diana Memorial Fund, which means that it will be free for you to attend the course and we will be able to cover your travel expenses. We can also provide free accommodation whilst attending Steady where necessary.
